Whilst scouring the dark depths before him, nothing so vital had ever lain before him, so life-changingly brilliant as the small black item, that when mastered could entrust the user with powers untold; indeed, no finer sight had grazed his vision than the remote stuffed between the couch cushions.

  1. This sentence is purposefully deceitful and logically tricks the reader into assuming a serious situation. The surprise twist ending, releasing the reader from their suspense, is ironic in its simplicity. This sentence uses different levels of diction (way to go, Jack Sparrow!) to transform from life-threateningly intense ("whist scouring the dark depths", "life-changingly brilliant", "mastered", "vital") to simply sitcom ("stuffed" "couch cushions"). The arrangement of these well-chosen words also adds to the delivery by changing the connotations drastically from the start to finish f the sentence. It conveys a feel of anticipation and anxiety about the "small black item", and humor that the item that "could entrust the user with powers untold" was simply a remote control for a television. This invention also relies on the logic of the reader. Hopefully, clue words scream out to them the direness of the situation, which is an example of inductive reasoning. I thoroughly enjoyed the flow of the sentence, thanks for a great example!
